Day after day, you wake up, tumble out of your dreams, for a moment believing that your dreams were true, and then you realize that you were just dreaming.
Each morning you reach and hold her soft, warm hand, assuming that her embrace will be there each morning, and that all you have to do is reach.
You say goodbye, you go to work for your dream-life; thinking that she will be happy when you realize your dreams; you come home and late at night you both hug and whisper in the dark, “sweet dreams.”
It is hard to stop and notice isn’t it?
To notice that time doesn’t stop, and hair is turning gray, and children are now grownups, that dreams realized become habit once more.
Stop!
And notice the beauty that you have built. Notice how many steps your feet have taken to get here, and how much blood has travelled your veins until your son turned twenty.
Smell your home and acknowledge that you have earned it; say “good boy” as you plop down on a comfortable seat . Smell the soft skin of the one still dreaming on her pillow; and give thanks to the other One who lent you energy, hope, and courage to shape this life.
